FAYETTEVILLE, AR – Fayetteville police, along with the University of Arkansas Police Department (UAPD) and other agencies, responded to a series of calls reporting an active shooter on the University of Arkansas campus on Monday. The initial report came in around 12:30 p.m., centered on the David W. Mullins Library. Despite the immediate and large-scale response, officials have stated they have found no evidence of an active shooter, confirmed no gunshots, and identified no injuries or suspects.
The Fayetteville Police Department (FPD) and UAPD received multiple calls from various locations around the university, leading to a comprehensive clearing of buildings. During a news conference, officials emphasized that the investigation is still active, but an “all clear” message had not been officially issued as of 2:10 p.m.
The swift and multi-agency response was a direct result of the nature of the initial reports. According to a statement released by the Fayetteville PD on Facebook, the FPD was called to assist UAPD at the Mullins Library at approximately 12:30 p.m. The statement reiterated the key findings from the investigation thus far: “As of now, there are no confirmed gunshots, no confirmed injuries, no known suspects, and no arrests have been made.”
The incident led to several precautionary measures across the community. The Neighborhood Walmart on MLK Boulevard was placed on lockdown, and Fayetteville Public Schools went under a temporary shelter-in-place order, which has since been lifted. This series of events, while ultimately not involving an actual shooting, highlights the readiness and coordinated response of law enforcement and community institutions in the face of such a serious threat.
The ongoing investigation will aim to determine the origin of the initial reports and understand what led to the widespread alarm. While the community can breathe a sigh of relief that no one was harmed, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and preparedness for emergency situations.
